It has often been said that people in Fort St. John know it’s spring when the annual Trade Show is held. The big event attracts over 10,000 people and hundreds of exhibitors who show off everything from the latest in new boats and recreation equipment to the services offered by many community groups. This year’s Trade Show was held April 13-15 and the crowds did not disappoint. Peace Valley OSB (PVOSB) joined Canfor – Fort St. John Sawmill and Canfor – Taylor Pulp to create a three-way exhibit that was very popular with Trade Show attendees.
The team from Canfor – Fort St. John handed out spruce seedlings and talked to people about lumber markets and the mountain pine beetle epidemic. The Taylor Pulp team explained the pulp making process and what paper products are made from the pulp produced in Taylor. The PVOSB team answered questions about how the new plant is running and coordinated entries for the very popular daily draw prize. This year the three divisions sponsored a daily draw of a portable fishing case complete with rod, reel and carrying case embroidered with each division’s logo.
Involvement in the annual Trade Show allows staff from each division to meet large numbers of people, answer questions and deal with any issues or concerns. PVOSB General Manager Chris Baby, Canfor – Fort St. John General Manager, Bob Korda and Canfor Taylor Pulp General Manager Terry Bradford joined employees in the exhibit booths throughout the Trade Show. All three senior managers agree that involvement in the trade show is beneficial in helping people better understand the local forest industry and also demonstrates the companies’ commitment to the community.
Plans are already underway for the 2008 Trade Show as all three divisions plan to participate.
